Dhriti Nirvana
Continuum Studio from Telangana approached us for the accessing their design of Dhriti Nirvana’s Zaheer
Villas for its building performance..
These reports explain the performance of the building under various exisitng circumstances for which
recommendations are given through rigorous iterations. Results for important aspects like the indoor
operative air temperature, air flow & heat analysis daylighting are taken and analysed giving out
appropriate design recommendations in the end.
*The following information of this project is a brief representation of the extensive report.
Indoor Operative Temperature Analysis —
Info
The above graph depicts the operative temperature for the given circumstances. It is evident that it is
not possible to achieve thermal comfort by just natural ventilation considering the geographical location.
For natural ventilation, the double glazing and the internal blinds helps in preventing the direct
exposure of sunlight into the building. Natural ventilation and AC is run in a scheduled manner under
regulated conditions to produce optimum results.
*Note: The temperature will differ if other means of active cooling methods are used based on
the technique’s workability.
Natural Ventilation - Double glazing with internal window shading (the high reflective blinds fixed mid pane) and 1m overhangs over all windows.

There is a loop of air formed in the East side which limits the inlet of air to the rooms placed in the East. There is a dip in the velocity of the air in the central courtyard area due to the absence of a void or sufficient window opening on the west wall to let the air in.

The arrows show the behaviour of the air movement. The hot air rises when the cooler settles towards the bottom of the room. There is an even circulation of air in the room. The air flows in a loop with the entry and exit from the window.

Iterations & Recommendations —
+ Introducing blinds in all the windows to minimize the direct solar gain into the rooms.
+ Addition of windows in the marked red areas can be implemented for better daylight and cross ventilation
purposes.
+ Introduce double glazing windows to reduce the heat gain through the windows.
*Note : The red areas marked are for representational purposes of the window placement and the modeled window sizes are 1 m X 1.2m.

Iteration 01 | Bedroom 02
Addition of window not only helped in the improving the daylight in the room but also has an effect in the
interior air flow too. This increases the ac/h for cross ventilation and helps to achieve the desired ac/h.
In this project, the rooms placed along the west side recieves constant infiltration of the fresh as the wind
direction is from west to east. This explains the slightly increased indoor air temperature in the rooms
placed along the east side. But at the same time, the rooms along the east cool down faster in the evening as
they do not have constant inlet of air as mush as the ones placed in the west. Additional care can be taken on
the west facade to limit the inlet of hot air when needed.
